CJ Temple is an American pop singer-songwriter based out of Richmond, Virginia.[1] In 2020 she gained over a million followers on TikTok for her Mid-Atlantic accent and singing videos.[2][3][4] After hitting one million followers, she began posting her own original music[4]. She launched her solo career in October, 2021 with the release of her debut single, "This Game", and her first full-length album, Smoke, in January, 2022.[3]

Early Life[edit]

CJ is the daughter and granddaughter of opera singers.[5] She spent her childhood singing in church, pursued vocal training as a teenager, and wrote her first song at the age of fifteen.[5] She earned a BFA in Theatre Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University.[6]

Career[edit]

In 2020, she gained one million followers on the TikTok within nine months.[2] She began posting videos of her singing covers followed by her own original songs.[3] She was discovered via TikTok by Nashville-based artist manager, owner of Olivia Management, Erin Anderson.[4] Anderson helped Temple launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise over $40,000 from friends and followers, funding her debut album, Smoke.[4]
