The CPC and World Political Parties Summit was an international relations video conference between various international political parties held on 6 July 2021. It was chaired by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party. The summit involved 500 political parties across 160 countries and over 10,000 party representatives. The theme was "For the People's Wellbeing: The Responsibility of Political Parties".

Background[edit]

The summit was organized by the International Liaison Department of the Chinese Communist Party, which is tasked with building international relationships. The department has been active since 2014, promoting "China's story" through annual dialogues and themed events.

Proceedings[edit]

The summit followed the 100th Anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party. Vice Minister Guo Yezhou stated the purpose was to help the international community adjust to China's rise and increase support for the Chinese government. Over twenty heads of state from developing countries made speeches, some thanking China for COVID-19 aid. Xi Jinping called on political parties to work towards the people's wellbeing and rejected unilateralism and hegemony. He highlighted China's model as an alternative to Western development.
