Cardo Siddik Afraciab (Arabic: كاردو صديق; born 21 September 2002) is a footballer who plays as a defender for Darlington. Born in England, he came through the youth system at Crystal Palace and is an Iraq youth international.[1][2][3][4][5]
Club career
Siddik started his career with English Premier League side Crystal Palace,[6][7][8][9][10] but never appeared in a competitive game for the first team. He was released in June 2023 and in December of that year signed for Darlington.[11]
International career
Cardo was first called up to the Iraqi youth team, where he later became captain despite being a native Kurdish speaker leading a mostly Arabic-speaking team.[2]
He recovered from his long-term injury during the 2020/2021 season, then joined up with the Iraqi Olympic Team training camp in Antalya in January 2022 in preparation for the 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup. He played in the 2022 Dubai Olympic Friendly Cup in his first official match with the U-23 side, as well as two warm-up matches in Baghdad against Iran, before being officially selected by Miroslav Soukup for the Asian Cup, where they went unbeaten in the tournament in normal time but were eliminated on penalties in the quarterfinals to the hosts.[12]
On 25 August 2022, Siddik was called up for the first time to the first team to play in the 2022 Jordan International Friendly Tournament.[13]
Personal life
Cardo was born in West London to Kurdish parents from Sulaymaniyah.
