Carlo U. Quinterio (26 January 1944) is an Italian producer and director. He is best known for his movies such as Night Train To Venice (1993), Sindrome veneziana (1989) and Pontormo (2004).

Early life and education

Carlo U. Quinterio was born in Florence on 26 January 1944, residing on Viale dei Colli. His grandfather was Carlo Pignatti Morano di Custoza. In 1970 he graduated in Economics and Commerce from the University of Florence. His father, Gustavo Quinterio, was the screenwriter and adapter of Dino de Laurentis for the films War and Peace, I Due Enemici, Barabbas and La Bibbia. Between 1965 and 1972, he made some documentaries in 16mm: Grazie Austerity, Firenze Perduta (about the 1966 flood), Henry Moore a Firenze, Sorriso Di Sole Ad Hong Kong and India Amara with material filmed by his father Gustavo. In 1973 Carlo U. Quinterio directed the short film Il Combattimento Di Tancredi E Clorinda, based on the texts of T. Tasso and the music of C. Monteverdi.

Career and later life

In 1974 Carlo U. Quinterio went to the U.S.A. and participated in a one-year internship in Hollywood Studios. In 1975 he was producer and director of ITALIA '75, a television program (42 shows) for Italians in Los Angeles, California, broadcast by Channel 22 on the Hollywood sunset. In 1976 Dino De Laurentis called him as special effects coordinator for King Kong and The White Buffalo, where he joined Carlo Rambaldi, winner of the Oscar the following year (1977). In 1977 he collaborated with Carlo Rambaldi on the creation of the E.T. in Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters.

Of The Third Kind. In 1978 he joined the DGA (Directors Guild of America) based in Los Angeles.

From 1978 to 1981 he collaborated with Paramount Television in the production of the shows Makin' It, Mork And Mindy, Family Ties, Best Of The West, Taxi ('80 - '81), Hart to Hart. In 1980 the DGA recognised him as the best American "stage manager" for the Taxi show.

In 1981 Paramount sent him to Italy as production coordinator, in the sequences shot in Italy of Winds Of War, a 15-hour television series followed by the series War And Remembrance.

Carlo U. Quinterio has held film courses at the Cinema Department of U.C.L.A. in Los Angeles (USA), at the P.A.C.E. Cinema School of Rome, at the Institute of Cinematographic Sciences of Florence, at FIT and the P.A.C.E. University Downtown in New York City.
