Carmel High School, Basaveshwaranagar, Bangalore is a co-educational recognized private unaided institution, located at Judges Colony, Basaveshwaranagar, Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
The medium of instruction is English. The academic year of the school is from June to April. It serves kindergarten (LKG, UKG), primary school (classes I to IV), middle school (classes V to VII), high school (classes VIII to X) and Junior college (classes XI and XII).
Pupils are prepared for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) in class X and the Karnataka State Syllabus in class XII. The school was based on the Karnataka State Syllabus up to about 1995, now it has converted to the CISCE
Library[edit]
Students can use computers in the library to browse the internet for information and the library contains various magazines, story books, novels and reference books. Students can pick up any book and should return it on due date.
Computer lab[edit]
The school offers computer education from Class V to Class X.
Classroom aids[edit]
The school has LCD screens in every classroom to aid teaching through media resources. It is the first of its kind in Bangalore to teach the students through the smart class or the LCD plasma screens.
Alexander Hall[edit]
In memory of the Alexander Menezes, founder secretary of the Carmel Education Society, a multi-purpose hall is named after him where events and programmes are held.
Infosys Catch Them Young[edit]
The school participated in Infosys Catch Them Young an aptitude test in which 400 students from 30 schools participated. There were 30 students selected from the whole city for the training and one of the school's students was selected and got training in the Infosys campus for three weeks.
Carmel Sports Arena[edit]
The long pending need for a better play ground facility for the students was met with the inauguration of the Carmel Sports Arena on the occasion of the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patroness, on 16 July 2011. The Chief Guests were the Minister Sri Suresh Kumar, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, government of Karnataka, Sri S.H. Padmaraj, Corporator, Basaveshwaranagar Ward, and Sri Arjun Devaiah, international athlete.
Student activities[edit]
The 5th World Taekwondo Culture Expo was held in Seoul, South Korea in July 2011. Two students of class 4 represented India in the U-10 year category and won two bronze medals and a gold and a bronze respectively in Taeguik and Poomsae events.
Grandparents Day[edit]
5 September 2011 was celebrated as grandparents day for the first time. The bond between the grandchild and the grandparent was cemented with the tying of band of Suraksha Bandhan and We so may love them with our hearts children from class one to four. Having tied the Suraksha Bandhan – a symbol of closeness and emotional relationship - the students, the teachers and parents took a pledge to take care of their grandparents.
Talent Festival[edit]
The school hosts the Alexander Memorial Talent festival biennially. The festival hosts events like fusion dance, painting, Nightingale, Mehendi, duet singing, Mad Ads, dumb charades, face painting, debate and elocution.
