Caroline Klebl (born Caroline Jordan Klebl) is an American yoga teacher and author. She specializes in ashtanga yoga,[1] [2][3]which she studied in India under the prominent yoga guru[4] Sri K Pattabhi Jois.[5] [3]Klebl is the founder of the Los Angeles-based yoga business, Source of Yoga, and non-profit organization Yoga Foundation.[2][6] She has produced an instructional DVD Yoga with Caroline Klebl, PhD[7] and is the author of Ashtanga Yoga: Primary and Intermediate Series. [8][5]
Early life[edit]
Klebl is an American citizen, born in Germany on November 23rd, 1977.[5] She spent her early years living in Vienna before moving to the United States at 10. At 14, she became a vegetarian, a diet she maintains to this day.[9][10] Klebl discovered yoga in Breckenridge, Colorado at 18.[11] She initially began her yoga practice by taking hatha yoga classes before transitioning to ashtanga yoga.[5]
Career[edit]
In 1999, Klebl traveled to Mysore, India to practice yoga with renowned ashtanga yoga guru, Sri K Pattabhi Jois.[12][11] Over the following nine years,[2] she continued her education under Jois and was authorized by him to teach ashtanga yoga in 2005.[13]
Klebl began her career as a yoga teacher in 1997 in Breckenridge, Colorado, teaching drop-in classes and ashtanga courses.[2][5] She taught her first international yoga workshops in Prague and Vienna in 2002, and subsequently taught across Europe, Africa, Asia, the Unites States, and Central and South America.[6][11][14] Klebl’s workshops have been well received,8[3][11] which led her to develop yoga teacher training courses for aspiring yoga teachers. In 2007 she was certified as a yoga teacher trainer and continuing education provider by Yoga Alliance with her 200 and 500-hour yoga teacher training programs accredited by the same organization. [2][3][15] Klebl studied Tibetan Buddhist meditation techniques and traditional Ayurveda, Sanskrit and yoga philosophy in South India. [2][3] In 2010, she earned a PhD in Yoga from the Indian University of Alternative Medicine.8 [11][3] Klebl is regularly featured in yoga and wellness publications, and photographs of her yoga poses have appeared in two yoga calendars and magazine covers around the world.[16][1][2][5]
