Carolyn Long is an American academic and politician from the state of Washington. She was the Democratic nominee for Washington's 3rd congressional district in the 2020 elections.

Early life and education[edit]

Long is from Brookings, Oregon.[1] She graduated from Brookings-Harbor High School in 1984, and then from the University of Oregon with an undergraduate degree in political science in 1989.[2] She earned her doctorate in political science at Rutgers University.[3][4]

Career[edit]

Long became a professor at Washington State University Vancouver in 1995.[2]

Long was the Democratic nominee for Washington's 3rd congressional district in the 2018 elections, losing to incumbent Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler. Long was again a candidate for the office 2020, placing first in the Democratic primary. Long will face Herrera in the November 2020 election.[5][6]

Personal life[edit]

Long and her husband, Kevin, have a daughter and live in Vancouver, Washington.[7] Long's daughter was born with Potter's syndrome.[8]
