"Cat Food" is the only single released on English progressive rock band King Crimson's second album, In the Wake of Poseidon. The single was reissued on vinyl in celebration of its 50th anniversary on February 21, 2020.[3]
Background[edit]
The track takes on a jazz fusion style[4], foreshadowing the band's sound in their following album, Lizard.[5] It was written by Robert Fripp, Peter Sinfield, and Ian McDonald and produced by Sinfield and Fripp as well. The single cover was designed by Peter Sinfield.[6] The track was covered by English progressive metal band, Peach, on their 1994 album, Giving Birth to a Stone, under the name "Catfood".
Reissue[edit]
On February 21, 2020, the single was reissued on ten inch vinyl under the label, Panegyric. Along with its B-side, "Groon", the reissue contains an 2019 alternate mix and live version.[3] It also peaked at the #2 spot of the Top 40 Official Vinyl Singles Chart in the week of March 13, 2020.[7]
