Cat in a Blender

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Cat in a Blender refers to a viral video featuring a live cat being ground to death in a blender which first surfaced on the Internet in May 2023. The video spawned a trend of reaction videos[1] and also trended on Twitter, which caused a major controversy since Twitter's autocomplete feature began associating the word “cat” with phrases related to the blender video. The video became widely discussed among children at school.[2]

The video appears to have been filmed somewhere in China due to the characters that are visible on the blender. The video ends with the remains of the cat being put inside a Microwave oven.[3]

Animal cruelty videos have become more prevalent on Twitter after Elon Musk took over and reduced the site's content moderation. When NBC News contacted Twitter to inquire about the presence of the cat video on the site, they received a poop emoji in response.[2]

A second video of a cat being killed in a blender surfaced later in May, with Twitter users describing it as even more traumatizing than the first video. A popular food blogger from Anhui was arrested, and was claimed by some users to be the person from the video, but this has not been confirmed. Killing cats is legal in China and there are very few laws against animal abuse. As a result, there is a sizeable community of people in the country who live-stream themselves abusing animals. [4]
