Cathal McAteer
Cathal McAteer (born January 1972) is former model and an award winning Scottish fashion entrepreneur.
Life and Career[edit]
McAteer was born and raised in Cumbernauld and educated at Our Lady's High School, Cumbernauld[1]
Following a brief stint at College , McAteer pursued a career in fashion as a model and then working his way from shop floor to manager and buyer of famed Glasgow boutique, Ichi Ni San[2] [3]before moving to London and working with brands such as Nicole Farhi. [4]
Folk[edit]
In 2002, McAteer launched Folk, a contemporary fashion brand , winning The Telegraph’s Best Small Shop in it’s first year of retail[5] , Folk has now grown to encompass 5 retail stores [6]an online e-commerce site and being stocked worldwide by retailers such as Mr Porter. [7]
Magic Castles[edit]
In 2020 McAteer launched Magic Castles a new unisex clothing and music brand.
Sounder Golf[edit]
In 2019, McAteer and 3 partners co-founded Sounder a golf lifestyle brand, launching the brand to market in August 2020.
Design Collaborations[edit]
McAteer has lent his design eye to many successful collaborations from interior design for Munich’s Flushing Meadows Hotel[8] and London’s The Green Room Hotel [9] an art collaboraration with British Sculptor, Paul Vanstone[10] capsule collections for iconic Terence Conran’s The Conran Store [11] and furniture design with SCP and Gareth Neal for the London Design Festival [12]
In 2019, he launched It’s All Good Folk with the department store chain John Lewis & Partners,[13] [14][15][16]
