"Caution" is a song by American singer and songwriter Mariah Carey. It is the title track of her 15th studio album, Caution[1]. "Caution" was written by Mariah Carey, Ernest Wilson, Mohamed Sulaiman, Luca Polizzi, Hinshaw, with production by Carey, No I.D., SLMN, Luca. It is an R&B song that feature lyrics about how a relationship startswith a woman who is scared into going another relationship with a new man because her heart was broken before. However, as the song goes on, she starts to trust him and the relationship blossoms by the end of the song.
Background and composition[edit]
Polizzi mentioned in a Rolling Stone article that the song was first conceived in the home studio of Luca Polizzi in Canada and SLMN added percussion and brought the song to No I.D, a veteran producer for Jay-Z, Nas and many more, who helped pass the track to Carey.[2] As what Carey said on Twitter, Caution was the last song she wrote for the album. In fact the name of the song was originally titled Proceed With Caution which inspired the title of the album in the end. [3]
Critical Reception[edit]
Saying that it is the 6th best R&B track of 2018, Billboard says "the song finds a vulnerable yet frank Carey taking stock as she tentatively wades into a new relationship, accompanied by a track that perfectly fuses nostalgic and contemporary beats."[4]
