The Central Botanical Garden of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) (Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan Milli Elmlər Akademiyası (AMEA) Mərkəzi Nəbatat Bağı), located in Baku, is the state research organization and conducts research on the botanical sciences in Azerbaijan. It was established on 03 July 1934. The director of the Central Botanical Garden of ANAS is Vahid Farzaliyev.[1]
Main scientific achievements[edit]
Investigated the reasons for the reduction of the habitats of 189 rare and endangered woody plants in the flora of Azerbaijan There were developed the scientific basis of the quality variability of seeds formed by woody plants both in nature and in the conditions of introduction Together with Russian scientists as a result of allozyme analyzes of 18 populations of the common pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) species distributed in the Greater Caucasus, Crimea, and Russian plains was determined The level of polymorphism and differentiation of populations. Carried out Ex-situ protection of seed samples of spinach (Spinacia tetrandra Steven ex M. Bieb. and S. oleracea L.), which is one of the most economically important wild vegetable plants in Azerbaijan. At the same time was determined effective germination characteristics of seeds. The patents and copyright certificates for varieties of roses "Esrin mugavilesi", "Sari Gelin" and" Nazperi" derived as a result of bud mutation. The radial growth dynamics of Juniperus foetidissima Will. was studied and tree-ring chronology was established.
