Chaitanya Gavali is a professional Indian MMA fighter based in Mumbai, India. He is currently the National Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion in the 69 Kgs Category. He has been selected to represent India in Jiu-Jitsu at the Asian Games to be held in Jakarta Indonesia in August 2018.

Early life[edit]

Chaitanya is one of 3 brothers. Chaitanya's father ran a small shoe shop in Mumbai which explains his humble beginnings. [1]. Chaitanya grew up in the Kandivali suburban area of Mumbai where he presently resides with his family.

Mixed martial arts career[edit]

Chaitanya started his mixed martial arts career in 2014 with the Evolution Combat Fighting Academy[2] in Mumbai. He is known to be India's first Professional MMA Fighter[3] to win a title in a foreign promotion[4]. He has participated in the MMA reality show Super Fight League right from Season 1.[5]To mark the entry of Professional MMA into India, Amul butter created a billboard featuring Chaitanya in an iconic pose from his bout with Tiran "Tornado" Thakshala in Season 1 of the Super Fight League.[6]
