Chaithanya Kumar, also known as Chethan[1] (born 8 December 1984) is an Indian actor, producer, and entrepreneur who works in Kannada and Telugu cinema. Having debuted in 2005, Chaithanya has acted in prominent movies such as Gunavantha, Gulama, Male Barali Manju Irali, Aadu Magaadra Bujji, and several more. He has also played one of the lead roles in the 2014 romantic thriller Kolahala.[2][3]

Chaithanya has essayed the role of a supporting actor in several movies which managed to earn him fame and recognition, eventually helping him to take on lead roles. He also turned producer in 2019 and has produced and starred in three Kannada movies. Apart from his film career, Chaithanya has started a film production company called SR Creations and an educational consultancy firm.

Chaithanya Kumar started his career in 2005 when he got the opportunity to play the male lead in the TV serial Gangotri. With that, he started taking on the roles of supporting actor in several Kannada and Telugu movies.

The first major break that Chaithanya got was in the 2007 Kannada romantic movie Gunavantha.[4] that starred Prem Kumar, in which he played the role of a villain. He followed it up with another supporting role in the 2008 Kannada drama Varasdara[5] starring Ravi Belegere.

What came next was the 2009 romantic movie Gulama[6] that starred Prajwal Devraj. One of his major hits was the 2009 Kannada drama movie Male Barali Manju Irali starring Srinagar Kitty which received critical acclaim.[7] He continued his stint in the Kannada film industry with movies such as the action-comedy Bhadra, Shankar, and Sakkathagavne.

Chaithanya also worked in the Telugu film industry with the 2013 action comedy romantic movie Aadu Magaadra Bujji starring Sudheer Babu in which he played a supporting cast. The movie was a moderate hit[8] and his performance was appreciated.

He was offered one of the lead roles in an ensemble 2014 Kannada romantic thriller Kolahala[9][2] in which he played one of the three male protagonists.

Producer[edit]

Chaithanya turned producer with the 2019 Kannada movie Nanna Kathe in which he played the male lead. The story revolves around the hero's complex understanding of love and his duty towards his mother captured beautifully on celluloid.

His next venture was the comedy horror movie WiFi where he was again the main lead. The film also had Bhavana Srivatsa and Sushmitha as the lead heroine. The film was shot in Vijayawada and Bangalore and tells a funny story that is laden with horror elements.

The last movie produced and starring Chaithanya was the 2019 Kannada thriller Pallavi. Chaithanya plays the male lead while Hima and Sabha essay the roles of female leads.

Chaithanya started SR Creations as a film banner with the sole intention of aiding new talent to enter the Kannada film industry. SR Creations handles almost all aspects of film-making such as scripting, financing, casting (which includes actors, directors, and writers), production, post-production, and marketing. Chaithanya intends SR Creations to become a respected film production company in South India which attracts the best of talent from the country to come together and create magic on screen.
