Chaudhry Akbar Ibrahim
Chaudhry Akbar Ibrahim (Urdu: چودہری اكبر ابراهيم; born 19 June 1967) officially known as Muhammad Akbar Chaudhry is a Pakistani-Kashmiri politician who is currently the Minister for Rehabilitation, State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and Civil Defence[1][2] in Azad-Jammu Kashmir government. He contests Azad-Jammu Kashmir general elections from the refugee seat of constituency LA 38 Jammu 5 comprising of Gujrat district, Mandi Bahauddin District and Wazirabad Tehsil.
Early Life
Chaudhry Akbar Ibrahim was born on 19 June 1967 in a small town of Gujrat[3] known as Tanda. He completed his matriculation from Muslim Model High School Lahore in 1983 and passed intermediate from Islamia college Lahore in 1985. He then obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Punjab University Lahore in 1987.
Political Career
He stepped into politics in the year 2001 when he contested for Union council Nazim elections in his hometown of Tanda. The same year, he contested for AJK general elections 2001 as an independent candidate in which he fell short.
In the next AJK elections 2006 held on 11 July, as an independent candidate, he won the seat and was elected as Member of Legislative Assembly by a substantial margin of 38,300 votes. In that tenure he was added to the cabinet and served as the Minister of AJK government for complete five years. In that tenure, he was given the responsibility of portfolios of Tourism; Wildlife & Environment; and Food[4] departments.
He once again contested AJK general elections 2011[5] as an independent candidate held on 26 June. As a result of coalition with the government of Pakistan Peoples Party he became Member of Legislative Assembly and served as Minister of Commerce & Industries for the complete five years tenure.
In the next elections held on 21 July 2016, he fell short by a close margin of almost 2000 votes.
