Chhavi Kohli is an Indian Born Fencer who competes in the Epee event. She has won a Gold medal in the team event and a Silver in the Individual event at the Junior National Championships, 2018. She is supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance Programme.

Early life and background[edit]

Chhavi was encouraged by her mother to take up fencing when she was in class 5. By the time, she was in class 9; she was part of the India team that won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Fencing Junior Championships, 2015[3]

Career[edit]

She has already won several international medals such as the Gold medal at the 2016 Thailand Fencing Championships (U-17), Gold medal at the 2015 Jordan Fencing Championships (U-15) and the Gold in individual and team events at the 2014 Open Fencing Nationals (U-17). The 16-year-old idolizes Olympic Silver medalist Rossella Flamingo for her grit and never say die attitude. She balances her education and sport very well and is currently training at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala under the able guidance of her coach Mohit Ashwini. Chhavi has recently returned home after defending her title at the 2nd TTF Minime and Thailand Open Fencing Championship (U16) and is practicing hard for the upcoming Junior World Cup in Bahrain at her training base. She aims to win an Olympic medal for India one day
