Chipmunks Christmas is a 2012 American Live-action animated Short film produced by Bagdasarian Productions and distributed by 20th Century Fox directed by Tim Hill and written by the writing team of Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, and Jon Vitti, based on the characters Alvin and the Chipmunks created by Ross Bagdasarian Sr. and the Chipettes created by Janice Karman. It is the third installment in the live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks film series following the first from 2007, and the second from 2009. The film stars Jason Lee, David Cross and Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Amy Poehler, Anna Faris and Christina Applegate return to voice the Chipmunks and the Chipettes, respectively. In the film, playing around while aboard a luxury cruise ship, the Chipmunks and the Chipettes go overboard and end up marooned in a tropical island, where they discover their new turf is not as deserted as it seems.

Plot

Dave (Jason Lee), the Chipmunks, and the Chipettes enjoy fun and mischief on a luxury cruise before their seafaring vacation takes an unexpected detour to an uncharted island. Now, the harder Alvin (Justin Long) and friends search for a way back to civilization, the more obvious it becomes that they aren't alone on this secluded island paradise.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked was released in the U.S. on December 16, 2011, and was the first and only live-action/CGI Chipmunks film to be rated G by the MPAA.

Home media

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked was released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. The release made $44,732,290 in DVD sales and $10,542,142 in Blu-ray sales.
