His work is most often associated with Modernism, often spare and hard edged his imagery is vividly portrayed, with his artistic output generally focused on a single subject matter for continuous stretches.[1][2][3] He lives and works in Cornwall.[4]

Career[edit]

Chris Billington had his first one-man show when he was 52 in 2008 and during the following years his recognisable graphic style quickly gained him international praise and recognition and invitations to exhibit globally. He has exhibited frequently across Europe and the USA, and by 2013 he had a major solo show for the Juelich Museum in Germany.[5] Billington's COLOUR AND REDUCTION ~ Landscapes To J.W. Schirmer, a major exhibition in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the death of Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, was one of the Juelich Museum's most successful shows to date and the Vernissage was attended by many dignitaries including Schirmer's great grandson.[5][6]

In addition to various painting commissions over the years in 2012 Billington was commissioned to produce a video for Nottingham's Night Of Festivals[7] and in 2013 he was commissioned to produce a video for the Velux Daylight Project.[8]

Billington has donated many works to charities in the UK and abroad, in particular he has donated several paintings to Marie Curie Cancer Care, one each in 2010, 2012 and 2014.[9][10]

Billington's work is many private and public collections, most notably in the Juelich Museum, Germany[11] which houses a significant collection of 20 of his paintings.[1][12]
