Yvonne Coomber is a British artist[3] who works en plein air and is best known for her depictions of the English countryside.[4] Many of her paintings are inspired by the Devon landscape,[5] with particular focusses on the natural world and colour.

Early life[edit]

Coomber was raised on a farm and spent a part of her youth in Ireland. She spent time living and working in the Middle East, Australia, Africa, the United States and Europe.[6] She also studied philosophy and literature at Brighton University.[7]

Career[edit]

Coomber's work is created en plein air, often using using mixed media - such as glitter, gold leaf, pigments and paint[8][self-published source?] - to depict subjects like wild hedgerows, tangled meadows, open moorlands and dense forests.[9] She uses paintbrushes, sponges, rags, palette knives and her fingers.[citation needed] Her influences include impressionism, abstract expressionism and colour field painting.

It has also been displayed at Brownston Gallery in Modbury,[10] Azure Gallery in Sidmouth,[11][third-party source needed] Imagianation in St. Ives,[12][third-party source needed] Paragon Gallery in Exeter,[13] the Edgar Modern Gallery in Bath,[14][third-party source needed] Store Street Gallery in London and at Dart Gallery in Dartmouth.[15][third-party source needed]

Coomber's first solo exhibition took place at isendyouthis Gallery, Ashburton, in 2004.[16][third-party source needed] In 2014, Coomber had a solo show at Brighton's Art5 Gallery.[17] In April of the same year, Yvonne Coomber Art was incorporated.[18][non-primary source needed] She returned to Art5 Gallery in March 2016 for an exhibition called "Paradise".[19]/ She has also exhibited at the Country Living Christmas Fair.[20][non-primary source needed]

In 2016, Coomber appeared on the BBC's Countryfile in an episode about British meadows.[21] She also launched a collection of fine art cushions at Birmingham NEC's Spring Fair.[22]

Personal life[edit]

Her gallery and studio are based in Totnes, Devon,[citation needed] where she lives[23].
