Christopher Mikel Mcdowney Bivins (born 1988) is an American recording artist, director and TV host, known for Singing, Rapping, Dancing & Film Production.[1][2]
Biography[edit]
Bivins was born in Washington, DC.[3]
Career[edit]
Bivins taught himself to dance and sing at a young age and was involved in his family church choir.
Bivins became one of four musicians featured on the 2012 CW network show The Next, where he made connections with experienced names in music like Gloria Estefan and Joe Jones. Soon after he became the official protégé of Nelly after the St. Louis emcee showed up at his front door announcing that he would be his personal mentor. Bivins did not win the competition due to losing his voice during taping. On the show Bivins performed Usher’s "More" and had a version released through Atlantic records. Following the show Bivins teamed with producer Born Just Right and went on to open for Chris Brown’s artist, Sevyn Streeter, to sold out crowds.[4][5]
In 2014, the singer headlined the BET College Tour [6] recap show alongside Luke James and Mila J,and ended the tour by performing on the 106 & Park stage.[7]
Bivins' music video tribute to Drake’s “Hotline Bling” which he had directed, received over one million views on WorldStar Hip Hop, and an article in the Singers room giving him more attention.[8]
With the combination of Bivins' single “Zone” and his behind the scenes tour blogs, Bivins landed a hosting gig and his own segment on BET.com. Coca Cola backed the young artist and co-created the “Flava Zone”. The Flava Zone keeps you up on what’s hot, what’s hip and what’s trending.[9]
In 2016, Bivins joined the ranks of Joynar Lucas and Token by becoming the winner of Kato's annual No Sucka Mc's Rap contest. He has been winning school and community talent shows since middle school. He has had parts in films including The Corner, directed by Charles Dutton, and the HBO series The Wire.[4]
