His political focus is on anti-Semitism criticism,[10][11][12] social justice[13][14][15] and pandemic prevention.[1][15] Gerlin focuses on the political means of public relations in his political activities.[3]

Public relations[edit]

Gerlin combines his main topics with numerous instruments of public relations[3] and claims to illuminate perspectives gained in confidential discussions with affected parties.[15][6]

In doing so, he often falls victim to insults and threats.[16][11][12]

Articles[edit]

The Weser Kurier reported on his participation in a panel discussion on the Corona Pandemic with young politicians from Bremen's political parties.[6]

He published an article about the attack in Hanau on February 2020 in Neues Deutschland. In it, he posited that racist terrorist attacks give migrants a sense of not belonging to Germany.[4]

Gerlin published numerous articles critical of anti-Semitism on the connection between anti-Semitism and protests against protective measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic in nationwide newspaper Der Freitag.[10][12] In the process, he postulated a radicalization of the German "Querdenker" scene.[11]

Television appearances[edit]

Gerlin appeared on the television station Buten un binnen in Bremen on December 5, 2020, as part of a panel discussion and banned protests against protective measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany. In doing so, he criticized the police operation on December 5, 2020 and pandemic prevention in schools and the workplace.[1][5]

Within the party[edit]

He moderated events with MdB Doris Achelwilm,[17][18] MdB Niema Movassat[19][20][21] and MdBB Maja Tegeler.[22] Gerlin also moderated an event on anti-Semitism research.[23]

Events during protests against protective measures due to COVID-19 pandemic in Bremen, Germany, December 5, 2020[edit]

Gerlin participated in demonstrations against the protests of "Querdenken421", which were banned by the Bundesverfassungsgericht.[25][26] There he spoke with media representatives for the participants of a blockade assigned in the self-conception to the "Antifa" against an illegal gathering of "Querdenken421" with 300 participants.[5][27][28][28]

The German news program Buten un binnen reported on the events and broadcast an interview excerpt in which Gerlin describes the goal of the blockade as ending the banned demonstration of "Querdenken421". Buten un binnen described the blockade as successful.[5]

As a result of the events, Gerlin wrote an article about the demonstration in which he criticizes the police work at the demonstration. In doing so, he shares Buten un binnen's assessment that the dissolution of the demonstration only took place due to the media pressure that arose as a result of the blockade.[5][10] Gerlin further criticizes that the police only planned to issue expulsions and that the participants of the demonstrations wouldn't have faced any legal consequences if it weren't for the public pressure.[10]
