Mark Bergfeld

Mark Bergfeld is a former member of the National Executive Council of the National Union of Students (NUS)[1] and the Central Committee of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP).[2] He stood in the elections for NUS President in April 2011.[3]

Political career[edit]

He was one of the leaders of the UK student demonstrations of November/December 2010[citation needed] and the spokesperson of the now defunct Education Activist Network.[4] He was a member the Central Committee of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP)[2] for a year until early 2013, when he resigned from the Central Committee and joined the internal opposition to the Central Committee majority's handling of the 'Comrade Delta' rape scandal.[5] He resigned from the SWP and joined Left Unity in 2014.[6]

Bergfeld holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and a Masters in Sociology from the University of Essex.[7]

He has been on television and radio on numerous occasions including ITV's Daybreak,[citation needed] Press TV's Big Story,[8] the BBC's The One Show,[citation needed] Channel 4 News[9] and BBC Radio 5 Live.[10]

He has been profiled in the Evening Standard,[11] and quoted in the The Daily Telegraph,[12] The Guardian[13] and other international press, namely Le Figaro[14] (France) and El País[15] (Spain).

He now writes regularly for Al-Jazeera English [16]
