Christie and Agatha's Detective Agency is an ongoing series of children's mystery novels by Pip Murphy, illustrated by Roberta Tedeschi and published by Sweet Cherry Publishing.[1] The audiobooks are read by Vanessa Labrie. The books are primarily aimed at children aged 7-9. There have been 2 novels published as of February 2022. The first novel, A Discovery Disappears, was selected by World Book Day as one of its recommended "Cosy Reads for Early Readers" in 2022.[2]

Overview[edit]

The series chronicles the adventures of the titular children Christie and Agatha Parker, twin sisters living in Devon, England in the 1920s. In each book the twins encounter historical figures of the period, such as Alexander Fleming and Arthur Conan Doyle and solve a fictional mystery connected to them. From the second book onwards, they are joined by their young Belgian friend Auguste Dupont. While there are a few recurring characters and the series is ordered chronologically, each novel is a stand-alone story, allowing the books to be read in any order.

Books[edit]

As of February 2022, 2 novels have been released.

A Discovery Disappears (September 2021)[3], in which Christie and Agatha try to find out who stole Alexander Fleming's research that had been hidden in a sandwich. The story is based on Fleming's discovery of penicillin in 1928.[4]

Of Mountains and Motors (February 2022)[5], in which the twins and Auguste must discover who is trying to sabotage Henry Alexander Jr's ascent of Ben Nevis in a Ford Model T. The story is inspired by a real publicity stunt that occurred in 1911.[6]
