Christina Eschner (* 1978 in Berlin-Pankow) is a German Protestant Theologian and New Testament scholar.

Life[edit]

Eschner studied Protestant Theology and Classical Philology at Humboldt University of Berlin (1997–2007). She completed her PhD (Doctor of Theology) in 2007 (summa cum laude) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Cilliers Breytenbach. Her dissertation addressed those phrases in the letters of Paul that refer to Christ having "died" or "given himself 'for'" the believers and their background in ancient Greek literature („Gestorben und hingegeben für die Sünder“). Until the completion of her habilitation in 2017 she was Research Assistant at the Chair for New Testament Literature, Religion and History of Cilliers Breytenbach. She was ordained as a minister of the Protestant Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz in 2011. From November 2011 until April 2012 she was a visiting scholar at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies. Her habilitation in New Testament studies in 2017 at Humboldt University of Berlin followed her work on "Food in ancient Judaism and early Christianity". After that, she worked as a private lecturer at Humboldt University of Berlin.

She became Professor of New Testament studies at the Theology Department at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in April 2022.[1]
