Christoph Hesse (born 1977, Referinghausen, Medebach) is a German architect. He is known for his sustainable designs in rural areas, collaborative urban design concepts and his artistic and nature-oriented cultural projects. Through Villa F, an energy-self-sufficient house in the Sauerland region, realized in 2015, he achieved international recognition and received numerous architectural awards.[[1][2]

Hesse received his Master of Architecture from ETH Zurich and a Master of Architecture in Urban Design with Distinction from Harvard University. He has taught and conducted research at ETH Zurich, Harvard University, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture in Saigon and Cairo University.[3] In 2010, Hesse founded his architecture firm Christoph Hesse Architects in Korbach, and in 2018 he opened a branch office in Berlin.[4] He lives in Oberschledorn in Sauerland.[5]

Exhibitions[edit]

In 2017, the project Ways of Life was conceived for and exhibited at Documenta 14's Experimenta Urbana in Kassel.[6] In 2018, his project Villa F was part of the "Vita Contemplativa" exhibition at Architektur Galerie Berlin Satellit, alongside buildings by architects Robert Konieczny and Snorre Stinessen.[7] In 2019, Hesse exhibited several of his realized works from the Sauerland and Waldeck-Frankenberg area at Achitekturforum Aedes in Berlin under the title "Grounded."[8] Other exhibitions of Hesse's projects have been at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, the World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam, Contemporary Space Athens, the Venice Architecture Biennale, and the German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt.[3]

Hesse's architecture firm as well as his projects have received several international awards. In 2020, he was part of the jury of the DAM Prize for Architecture.[9]
