Christoph Zimmermann (born 7 June 1968) is a Swiss Formula One engineer and designer. He is currently the Plan Manager for DePuy Synthes and served as BMW Sauber chief designer from 2007-2011.
Career[edit]
Zimmermann started his career in engineering as a draughtsman for Swiss firm TUC Consults in 1989. After four months he made the step up to motorsport joining the Sauber sportscar team as a junior design engineer. When the Swiss outfit entered Formula One for the 1993 season Zimmermann stuck with the team. In 1999, seeking a new challenge, Zimmermann decided to move to California to become Senior Composites Engineer for Swift Engineering; being responsible for the layout and design of all composite components for the Swift 011.c Champ Car.[1] In November 2000 Zimmermann returned to Hinwil as Head of Composite Design, remaining with the team as it transitioned into BMW Sauber. After Jorg Zander left in the summer of 2007, Zimmermann was promoted to being Chief Designer being responsible for the design office and conception and development of the car working under technical director's Willy Rampf and James Key.[2] At the end of 2011 Zimermann decided to leave motorsport to work for DePuy Synthes a Swiss firm specialising in the design and manufacturing of orthopaedics.[3]
