Christy Sebastian is a South Indian film editing professional, known for his works in Malayalam films, Advertisements and Documentaries.[1] He is the founder and owner of Focus Ring Studios, an advertisement production house based out in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India.
Early life[edit]
Christy Sebastian was born at Dubai Hospital in Dubai, UAE on September 24, 1993, to Sebastian Michael and Daisy Sebastian. His family moved back to India six months after his birth and he was brought up in Thiruvananthapuram later. He did his schooling in Sarvodaya Vidyalaya and St. Mary's Higher Secondary School Thiruvananthapuram. After his schooling he decided to follow his passion in Film Making.
Under University of Wales he joined for BA Visual Effects in ICAT Design & Media college, Chennai. In 2012 he started a Post Production studio 'Focus Ring Studios', during his second year of college.[2]
Career[edit]
Christy started out as an assistant cinematographer for advertisements and documentaries, then he assisted directors in several Ads. He started to do small advertisements for local brands under Focus Ring Studios until his graduation, then he teamed up with many production houses as an editor as well as a creative director for advertisements, corporate films and documentaries. He worked as a producer, creative director and as project designer for several advertisements ever since. In 2017 He Produced, directed and edited the concept video for Mahindra & Mahindra's Autonomus tractor. During 2015-2017 he associated with Major companies like Mahindra & Mahindra,Gionee, Nestle, QuEST Global Engineering, DD Malayalam, Asianet etc.. in their regional and international advertisement sectors.
His film career started immediately after his graduation, he joined the film Ennu Ninte Moideen in 2015 as a promo editor for the promotions and making videos of the film, later that year he joined the film Veeram as an Associate Editor along with Appu N Bhatathiri, who was his college senior, who won the Kerala state award for best Film Editing for the same film in 2017.[3][4] He worked along with Appu as an Associate editor in the film Manhole, which also won the Kerala state award for Best Film and the best director.[5][6][7] In 2016 he joined BharatBala Productions as an Editor under the director Bharat Bala who is well known for his works like Vande Mataram, Jana Gana Mana and Maryan, He worked on many documentaries as well as Corporate advertisements for BharatBala Productions, he still continues to work with BharatBala Productions as a freelancer.
In the Year 2017 along with Appu N Bhatathiri he co-edited the film Sleeplessly yours, an Independent feature film starring Sudev Nair and Devaki, directed by Goutham Soorya and Sudeep Elamon.[8] The film Sleeplessly yours was produced by Smrithi entertainments. Christy was one of the investors in the movie and also he worked as a creative producer of the movie.
His debut as an independent film editor was in the movie Mangalyam Thanthunanena(2018)[9] Directed by Soumya Sadanandan, Starring Kunchacko Boban and Nimisha Sajayan,
Produced by Dr. Zachariah Thomas, Allwyn Antony, Prince Paul and Angelina Mary Antony. The film is the directorial debut of Soumya Sadanandan after the National Awards for Best Documentary at Allahabad International film festival for the documentary Chembai: My discovery of a legend. The film is written by Tony Madathil.[10][11][12]
