Chuti or Chhuti (Bengali: ছুটি ; English: "Holiday"[1] or "The School Closes"[1] or "The Home-Coming"[2]) is a short story written in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore.[3][4] It was written in the month of Poush in 1299 Bangabda. It was first published in 'Sadhana' in 1892. This sad story is included in the Tagore's collection of short stories Galpaguchchha.[5]

A boy nurtured by nature named Phatik is displaced and isolated in a civic environment. The unfavorable conditions and unfriendly environment there made him restless. He can't fit himself there. Finally, on a rainy day, he came out with a feverish body. Police rescued him with a high fever. When he took the pledge to go home to his uncle, he said he would go home on Puja holiday. He started talking in a daze. When his mother came running and hugged him, he said, "Mother, I'm on vacation now, Mother, I'm going home now." This holiday became a permanent holiday.[5]
