Munshi Tirth Ram Feroze Puri was an Indian novelist, fiction writer, editor and translator, he translated dozens of books into Urdu language[2] also published a monthly magazine, the Interpreter. His education was matriculation. For the purpose of livelihood, he lived in Lahore from 1930 to 1947. After Partition of India, he settled in Jalandhar. He translated more than 250 or more than 150 English books into Urdu, which are more than 60 thousand pages.[3]
Biography[edit]
According to some researchers, Munshi Tirtha Ram translated about 250 English novels and according to some researchers he translated more than 100 English novels of which "Girdash Afaq" was the most voluminous and popular novel which consisted of four volumes. Munshi Tirtha Ram was a great student of Western novels of his genre. It was not that he limited himself to only one genre of novels. Here are his translations and interpretations of Western detective novels changing with the changing times. He enriched Urdu with translations of every major Western detective thriller novelist from the late nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century.[4]
