Clarendon Road Presents: A Plastic Free Record is a compilation album by the organization Clarendon Road[1] to raise awareness of plastic pollution.[2] 100% of the profits from the album will go to the Bahamas Plastic Movement,[3] and the album will be released on August 24, 2018.[4] "Plastic Bag Song" was the lead single of the album and was released on August 3, 2018.[5]
Development[edit]
The idea for the album came when Two Roads Plastic Project recorded "We Will Save the World" for Clarendon Road in 2017.[6] The Co-founder of Clarendon Road, Nicholas DeMarco thought that it would be a great idea to release a collection of songs about plastic pollution. In June of 2018, Nicholas realized that there was not enough songs about plastic that could make an entire album, so other artists were featured on the album that were interested in helping the cause of the Bahamas Plastic Movement.[6]
Composition[edit]
"Plastic Bag Song" was written by Simon Wrigley in honor to protect our Oceans in 2011. He encouraged people to look into the 5 Gyres Institute to find a solution to plastic pollution.[7] He also stated that on his website he wanted us to be conscious of our environment and take responsibility for it.[7] "We Will Save the World" was written by Two Roads Plastic Project, as well as co-founders of Clarendon Road, Nicholas DeMarco, Daniel Weisberg, and Robert Weisberg.[8] The song was recorded in the summer of 2017 for Clarendon Road's "Smog of the Sea" movie screening.[9] A music video for the song was released on Vevo on September 10, 2017.[10] The song was later featured in the "Plastic Thoughts" YouTube series.[11][12][13] "Fear 18" by Rayge DeMarco & Trunkapeet was written in 1995 and featured on the 1996 "Scallions" compilation album.[14]
Singles[edit]
"Plastic Bag Song" by Simon Wrigley was released as the lead single of the album on August 3, 2018.[5] The music video for the song has spawned over 15,000 views on YouTube.[15] "Rune" by Sam Mackrill was the second single on the album and will be released on August 15, 2018.[16]
