Clubscene is a short film by Italian-Canadian filmmaker Adriano Valentini and features Mystery Hunters star Christina Broccolini. Shot in April 2008, Clubscene was Valentini's Advanced Film Project while studying under director Susan Seidelman at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. In 2009, the film was awarded the Wasserman/King Finalist Award as well as the Craft Award in Screenwriting at NYU's First Run Film Festival.[1] The film was then invited to be screened at the prestigious 2009 Haig P. Manoogian Screenings at the Directors Guild of America Theater in Los Angeles.[2] Following its success, the film’s creators have begun adapting the concept into a web series, further exploring the world and characters.

Plot

Clubscene is a fast-paced coming-of-age comedy-drama chronicling the self-abusive lifestyle of a young clubber as he comes to the realization that there must be something more to his shallow, materialistic, vulgar, yet often hilarious, life.

Bartender Gabe Garibaldi, played by Carmine DiBenedetto, is the King of the Clubscene in Montreal – the nightlife capital of North America. His uncle's popular club – Club Touch – is the hottest spot in the city. Every night, Gabe and his buddies - club promoter Paul DelDuca (Aaron Colom) and celebrity DJ Vinni V (Nardeep Khurmi) – create the wild, unforgettable atmosphere for the Montreal locale and tourists from all over the world.

Gabe lives a high-profile lifestyle. The girls love him. The guys want to be him. He gets what he wants when he wants it. And he loves it. Until he meets a girl who calls him out on his shallow lifestyle. She doesn't fall head over heels for him. She doesn't care that he's best friends with DJ Vinni V. She's unlike any girl he's ever met. He realizes his life of perpetual hedonism is leaving him unfulfilled and disconnected. But he's unsure how to get out, how to change. He begins to reevaluate his lifestyle and question who his friends really are.

Awards

In 2009, Clubscene was awarded the Wasserman/King Finalist Award and the Craft Award in Screenwriting at NYU's First Run Film Festival. "The Bartender", a short film follow-up to Clubscene focusing on Gabe and The Girl Upstairs, was an Official Selection at the 2010 Brooklyn International Film Festival.

Web series

Recently, Clubscene creator Adriano Valentini has adapted the concept into a web series. The series focuses on the four main characters - Gabe Garibaldi, Paul DelDuca, DJ Vinni V and Murray. Just when Gabe's about to break free from his lifestyle of clubbing and partying, he's put in charge of the city's hottest night club - Club Touch. He's then forced to juggle his family, his immature friends, his club life and his addiction to alcohol, sex and espresso while still striving for something more.

To promote the series, four short films were created, each focusing on one of the main characters - The Bartender, The Under-Ager, The Promoter and The DJ. The Bartender recently premiered at the 2010 Brooklyn International Film Festival.[3]
