Coders Against COVID was founded by Andrew Kemendo, then-USAF Kessel Run's Chief Data Officer, and Jorge A. Caballero, then-Clinical Instructor of Anesthesia at Stanford School of Medicine and prior-Head of Data at Amino.[1][2][3] This volunteer effort was formed on March 15, 2020 through a series of posts on the social news forum, Hacker News.[4][5][6]

On March 21, 2020 Coders Against COVID launched the first national COVID-19 testing site locator for the United States.[1][7][8][9][3][10]

On March 23, 2020 Coders Against COVID joined FEMA's Crowdsourcing Unit as a Digital Volunteer Organization, according to a directory managed by the USGS.[11]

By March 25, 2020 Coders Against COVID had entered into a collaborative effort with GISCorps involving the COVID-19 testing site data.[12][13][3][14]

On April 2020, the COVID-19 testing sites locator produced by the collaborative effort of GISCorps and Coders Against COVID as FEMA's App of the Week.[14]

On May 5th, 2020 the COVID-19 Testing Sites Locator was added to a healthcare emergency preparedness information exchange managed by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.[15]
