The Prince of Songkla University Council has approved the establishment of the College of Computing at the Phuket Campus. This strategic initiative aims to consolidate the educational and research efforts in the field of computer science and digital systems. The decision, made on August 20, 2560, signifies a significant step forward in aligning our academic offerings with the evolving technological landscape.

The College of Computing is the result of combining between two esteemed academic entities: the Department of Computer Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering[10], Phuket Campus, and the Department of Information Technology and Communication within the Faculty of Technology and Environment[8]

. These departments have successfully educated students and contributed to the advancement of knowledge for years.

The Department of Computer Engineering, operating under the Computer Engineering Graduate Production Project over a 15-year span (2002-2017), produced a total of 16 cohorts of graduates with the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Engineering). Meanwhile, the Department of Information Technology and Communication, established in 2005, has conferred the degree of Bachelor of Science in three specializations: Information Technology, Software Engineering, and Electronic Business, spanning across 15 generations.

The strategic formation of the College of Computing is designed to facilitate enhanced education, research, and academic services in the realm of digital systems and computer science, aligning with the national 20-year strategy[11]. The College's focus will be centered around advanced academic pursuits and research in digital technology, innovation development, digital business, large-scale data analysis, entrepreneurship promotion, and the smart development of Phuket city.

Furthermore, the College will emphasize excellence in computer science education, catering to the educational needs within the Phuket Campus. This move is in direct response to the rapidly evolving technology landscape and the demand for skilled professionals in computer-related fields.

The establishment of the College of Computing represents a visionary step towards academic and research excellence, as well as a profound commitment to contributing to the region's technological advancement and economic growth. Through this strategic endeavor, Prince of Songkla University reaffirms its dedication to fostering intellectual development and driving innovation in the digital era.
