Comics Village was a British-based comics website launched in November 2007.
The site was predominantly aimed at publicizing non-mainstream comics, providing a different take on the mainstream (i.e. superhero comics) than websites like Comic Book Resources, IGN, or Newsarama. Comics Village proclaimed itself to be a totally independent comics website, unbeholden to any large US publisher for previews, interviews, etc. The site's aesthetics came from the attitude of alternative comedians of the 1980s UK scene — unafraid to call a spade a spade, or to point out the emperor has no clothes. Over time, Comics Village extended its remit to other forms of popular culture.[citation needed] Comics Village was edited by Craig Johnson.
Early in 2008, the sister site of Manga Village launched, rapidly becoming the largest and most in-depth manga-reviewing website on the Internet.[citation needed] Manga Village was edited by Lori Henderson.
Over time, both sites shifted focus entirely to manga, and Comics Village faded away.
Comics Village/Manga Village went defunct in 2012.
