Caving and rescues[edit]

Rescues[edit]

In 2018, Roe helped rescue a youth soccer team in the Tham Luang cave rescue.[1] Poor visibility, cave debris, and cold temperatures were all obstacles to cave diving in the rescue of the team. Parts of the cave were so narrow that the children had to be pushed in front of the divers. At other times, the children were held close to the chest or held out to the side.[2]

Expeditions[edit]

Roe has been involved in expeditions to Huautla, Mexico exploring the Huautla Cave System.[3]

Awards and honours[edit]

In November 2018, Roe and five other members of the British cave rescue team were given the Pride of Britain 2018 award for "Outstanding Bravery" for the Tham Luang incident. The rescued children attended the award ceremony, in London.[4]
