Controversy over the establishment of video surveillance cameras in Zizur Mayor

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Since the introduction of video surveillance cameras was announced in Zizur Mayor, Navarre, Spain on 1 October 2021[1][2], there have been several neighbors who have criticized the measure, considering it a lack of the right to privacy[3].

History[edit]

On September 2021, Zizur Nagusia's Mayor, Jon Gondán, decided to install video surveillance cameras in Zizur "due to the "insecurity" of some neighbors"[4]. The Bizi Zizur collective (created as a result of this controversy), collected 1754 signatures against this measure, these being presented at the City Hall on December 1, 2021[5].

Political Views[edit]

José Ángel Saiz (EH Bildu), from the government team, criticized the urgency given to something unimportant.[6]

Javier Álvarez (AS Zizur) criticized the "lack of participation" and "transparency" in the City Council, and has asked that the item be removed from the Agenda "out of respect for citizens."[6]

Félix Castor Zunzarren (Navarra Suma) valued that cameras are an element that "provides security, is prevention" and added that "only the police will have access to it."[6]

Richard Ocaña (PSN) has defended the installation of security cameras.[6]

Andoni Serrano (Geroa Bai) commented that the cameras would be "sufficiently protected" and that there have been "hoaxes and a totally partisan treatment of this issue."[6]
