Courtney Ruth Miller (born June 19, 1995) is an American actor, comedian, influencer, YouTuber, ex-Viner, and singer most known for their work on Smosh. They started their online career as a Vine star and created their account in 2013. They were inducted as a member of Smosh in 2015[1] and soon after started their own YouTube channel.

Early Life[edit]

Courtney grew up in Oak Park, California in a Mormon family. After attending a few community college courses, they dropped out and started to work at a pharmacy. Later they entered a film internship which finally launched their career in the visual arts.[2] Then in 2013, Courtney created her Vine account and their social media career began.

Career[edit]

While on Vine, Courtney grew in popularity. Their most liked Vine is a video of them being chased by the cops for favoriting their own tweet; this video reached 74,000 likes and 4.8 million loops. They also collaborated with other viners like Brandon Calvillo, Alex Ernst, Matt King, and Olivia Sui.

In the midst of content creation on Vine, Courtney was also working on different music videos for Create Music Group including Soulja Boy's Designer where they did the SFX makeup.

Later, Olivia Sui asked Courtney to come to the audition for Smosh, a YouTube channel that has had major success since the beginning of the platform.[2] Both Courtney and Olivia booked the audition as well as Shayne Topp, Noah Grossman, and Keith Leak Jr. [1] Courtney's official first video on the channel was The Mother's Day Rule where they played Ian Hecox's sister.[3]

A few months after joining Smosh, Courtney created their own YouTube channel originally posting their old Vines in a compilation. They later would start making other types of videos including vlogs, Q&As, and storytimes. They also would post a few songs and covers occasionally with the group CloudTalk. In December of 2018, Courtney had seemingly stopped posting until September of 2022 when they posted the video A very chill week in my life where in the description they state ″We're finally back after 3 YEARS, and we're not going anywhere.″[4]

While Smosh was owned by Defy Media, Courtney was solely a cast member and occasionally a writer. However, in 2018, Defy shut down and left Smosh homeless. [5] At the beginning of 2019 Mythical Entertainment bought Smosh and gave the employees more freedom of content creation. Courtney then was able to direct, write, and produce sketches and videos.

They also released a clothing website in 2022 on Haverdash called Courtney's Rack. It is a weekly catalog of clothes that is picked by Courtney and represents their own style.[6]
