Crafter arena
Description
Crafter arena is a genre of strategy video games that originated as a subgenre of real-time strategy and multiplayer online battle arena. The objective is to build battle-ready vehicles out of blocks and battle in PvP arenas against other players. What makes Crafter arena games unique is their combination of sandbox building games and vehicular combat, offering players the unique possibility to build whatever they want and use it in fights against creations of other players.
Best example might be Robocraft as one of the pioneers of this genre.
Gameplay
Building part
In Crafter arena games, players usually start with a "core" block or "pilot seat" (in early Robocraft) they have to protect and build around with other blocks. Usually, blocks and parts a player adds create a direct impact on vehicle's movement, stamina, or attack power. Some crafter arena games also add special classes and class-restricted ability parts that grant a special advantage to a player's vehicle. Usually, players are able to customize their vehicles with skin sets or colored blocks for larger differentiation of player creations. Some games allow only one vehicle at a time, others offer garages or hangars to store vehicles, making them usable for anytime for different matches.
Fighting part
Crafter arenas are strictly closed-world arena-based multiplayer games; therefore, the most frequent game mode is team death-match. Other team-based game modes may occur, however free-for-all game modes are in the minority. Ranging from quick time-restrained matches (from 3–10 minutes long) to score-focused unlimited-time matches, crafter arenas don't specify in one type. The objective is mainly to destroy as many opponents as possible to get the highest score within the time or to get the highest score first.
Progression
Crafter arenas are mainly RPGs, meaning that they have their own progression system granting players more possibilities in building and/or resources to build better and/or larger vehicles to use against better and more skilled players.
