Creative Recreation is Los Angeles-based lifestyle footwear company.[1][2] The brand’s largest market outside of the United States is the United Kingdom.[3]

Overview[edit]

Creative Recreation was officially launched in Orange County, California in 2002 by Robert Nand and Rich Cofinco. The founders were friends who were already working in the footwear industry. They noticed that most footwear companies were offering either dress shoes to be worn with a suit or athletic inspired sneakers that were not acceptable to wear off of the basketball court. They aimed to design a combined athletic and dress shoe, in a market segment which has subsequently been targeted by fashion brands including Lanvin, Jil Sander and Pierre Hardy. The founders developed a series of four standard shoe silhouettes using leathers, suedes and artificial snakeskins. They developed 23 different shoe patterns and released about 200 different styles per season in limited runs.[4][5][5][6][7]

The brand was used in the 2010 dance film Step Up 3D, where a pair of shoes from the company was customized by German designer Moritz Waldemeyer with illuminating LED panels equipped with motion sensors that respond to the movement of the dancer.[2]

Acquisition[edit]

In February 2014 Rocky Brands Inc, a Nelsonville-based maker and marketer of boots, announced the acquisition of Creative Recreation for $11 million. In 2015, Creative Recreation brought back original owner, Rich Cofinco and named him Creative Director.[8][9]
