Cricket Ernest Green[1] is a fictional character and one of the main characters from the American animated sitcom Big City Greens, created by the Houghton brothers. He is voiced by series co-creator Chris Houghton.
Creation
Cricket Green is based on and voiced by series co-creator Chris Houghton as a child.[2][3][4][5]

His name is derived from a nickname that Houghton encouraged his classmates to call him but never caught on,[2] and his hairstyle is based on Houghton's own when he was young.[2][6] Houghton also conceived Cricket's catchphrase, "Bingo! Bango!"[7] Cricket's design, as are all others, is inspired by The Muppets.[3][8]
Role in Big City Greens
Cricket is a 10-year-old boy hailing from the country town of Smalton. He and his family move from their home in the country to Big City to live with their grandmother Alice. This factor was meant to reflect the Houghton brothers moving from their hometown of St. Johns, Michigan to Los Angeles, California.[9]
Characterization
Appearance
Cricket is a small, thin 10-year-old male with bright yellow skin, a large head, and no neck. He has medium-brown hair in a bowl-cut with both sides bare, and light brown hair under his scalp. He has thick, black eyebrows, blue eyes, and two round buckteeth. He generally wears turquoise overalls with a light bluish-gray shirt underneath and is usually seen barefoot.
Personality
Cricket is portrayed as an optimistic, mischievous and adventurous child driven by his curiosity and enthusiasm,[10][11] derived from Chris Houghton's personality as a child.[12] He is usually always getting himself into trouble,[13] and likes to pull pranks,[14] formerly with his now ex-girlfriend Gabriella.
