Crossfire KM is an international undergraduate policy consortium. Crossfire KM claims to be the central hub for undergraduate voices on politics and policy who hail from various universities around the world. The platform works to provide unique commentary and analysis on the most complex issues in the modern political landscape and has connections and networks with top students from institutions including Boston College, Columbia University, the London School of Economics, SciencesPo, Tufts University, University of Chicago, Yale University, and more.[1]

History[edit]

Founding[edit]

Crossfire KM was founded in 2020 by Raj Koshal (Sciences Po '20 & Columbia '22) and Julian Melendi (Yale '23) during the coronavirus pandemic.[2] Crossfire KM brings students from around the world together to one central and accessible space. Crossfire KM aims to solve two main problems in the collegiate policy writing space.[3]

Fragmentation[edit]

Crossfire KM claims to avoids the bureaucracy, hierarchy, and lag times associated with university publications and newspapers catered to the undergraduate student body.

Universities have many policy organizations, such as the Yale International Relations Association, the Columbia Political Review, and the Harvard Political Review being some of the more prominent ones. Crossfire KM aims to solve this problem by bringing talented students from around the world together by streamlining recruitment processes. Moreover, Crossfire KM aims to allow writers to learn from one another and create a global forum through which they can share their ideas quickly, concisely, and effectively. Crossfire KM aligns itself to be a non-partisan platform.

Engaging Youth Voices in the Policy Space[edit]

The organization believes that that youth voices are often lacking in the realm of policy discourse, and when they are present, they suffer from myopia, especially in American political science departments. They believe that, too often, individuals are accustomed to thinking about issues from a singular, national perspective, without recognizing the interconnectedness present in the world. The goal is by featuring a diverse set of voices and allowing students to approach challenging problems freely, Crossfire KM bypasses this narrow thinking. Crossfire KM claims to elevate Gen Z voices in the realm of domestic and international policy.

Projects[edit]

  • Recognition in media outlets.[10]
  • Launch of a podcast featuring interviews with prominent politicians and policy thinkers.[11][12]
