Cultbytes is an online arts magazine, based in Manhattan, New York. Founded in 2016, the blogazine predominantly covers artists of color, female artists, social issues within the art world, and is engaged in art influencing.

Reception[edit]

It was praised by the editor-in-chief of ArtZealous, Kristina Adducci, for being "passionate about working against the social inequalities in the art world."[1] Joan Robledo-Palop, the art historian, called it's social media presence "avant-garde" and "inspiring."

Cultbytes founding editor-in-chief Anna Mikaela Ekstrand has been interviewed about her editorial work in ArtZealous[2], Art Frankly[3], and We-Rule[4] and has lectured about it at the visual arts department at Brown University and participated in a panel at Superfine Art Fair[5], among others.

The site serves as a producer and co-organiser of several exhibitions including Akshita Gandhi and Anuktri Upadhyay: Traveling Souls[6][7], The Boring Company New York and SpaceX Gallery[8][9][10]co-curated by Adrian Wilson, Anna Mikaela Ekstrand, and Uniska Wahalo Kano, Sara Erenthal - BACKSTORY curated by Nina Blumberg[11][12][13], Your Decolonizing Toolkit[14] co-curated by Ekstrand and Ayana Evans, and Ekstrand served as co-curator for The Immigrant Artist Biennial,[15] an exhibition supported by NYFA[16] and Kickstarter held in 2020 presenting 60+ artists at Brooklyn Museum,[17] EFA Project Space, and online. The Immigrant Artist Biennial was widely covered by Hyperallergic,[18] Artnet,[19] The Art Newspaper,[20] and other art publications.
