Meteorological history
In the monsoonal trough, a low-pressure area formed east of Timor on 3 April, travelling westward. Easterly wind shear and the mountainous climate of Timor initially prevented development, but once the disturbance was over the Savu Sea the next day, it would begin to strengthen. On 3:00 UTC on 5 April, the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center of Perth (TCWC Perth) would name the nascent system Chloe as it intensified into a tropical cyclone.[1]
Chloe would undergo rapid intensification later that day, intensifying into a severe tropical cyclone (hurricane equivalent on the Saffir–Simpson scale)[1]
