The D-Block Boys are an African-American street gang in New Orleans, Louisiana operating in Algiers, New Orleans. [1] The gang have been involved in all criminal activity includong drug trafficking and murder. The gang is one of New Orleans most feared street gangs. According to NOPD, The "D-Block Gang" has a history of violations, along with involvement in violent crimes[2] [3]

History[edit]

The gang formed in the Algiers section of New Orleans by teenagers from the DeGaulle Manor Public Housing Complex which was nicknamed D-Block. The D-Block Boys have been tied to several homicides over the years and became infamous for violence in the city. NOPD Fourth District Police have been tracking the gang since the early 2000s as they sold Heroin and Crack Cocaine out of the aprtmnets. on December 13, 2004 Edward Patterson a member of the D-Block Boys shot NOPD Capt. Louis Dabdoub while he was on patrol in the apartments.[4]

After DeGaulle Manor complex was closed off the gang moved their operation to Westpark Ct area. In 2017 three members was arrested on Westpark Ct in a raid for possession of a firearm while in possession of illegal narcotics, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and possession with the intent to distribute heroin and marijuana. During the search, detectives confiscated multiple firearms, 31 individually wrapped clear bags of a white powder substance later determined to be heroin, 36 individually wrapped clear bags of marijuana, cash and other items.[5]

2006[edit]

  • In May 2006 police arrested two members of the D-Block gang in DeGaulle Manor for allegedly shooting assault rifles in the courtyard. The weapon was possibly used in the April homicide in the 2300 block of Murl Street.[6]
  • In July 2006 NOPD arrested five D-Block Boys in the Fischer Projects. Anthony Thomas then 18 who was suspected of the 2300 Murl Street homicide had an active warrant out. SWAT team raided the complex and found the group hanging out in the courtyard one of them was carrying the dangerous Chinese-and Russian-made SKS rifle, Equipped with a folding bayonet and armor-piercing round. All five men were arrested. Thomas, who had a pending warrant, was booked with two counts of illegally carrying a weapon, possession of obliterated serial number, drug possession and resisting an officer. [7] [8]
