Early life
Dj Lytmas was born in Kisumu District during the El Niño session of (1997-1998). At a young tender age, Dj Lytmas already wanted a career in either Music or computer-related jobs.[2] His interest grew high to the point of him dismantling electronic devices back at home. This sometimes made his parents mad at him. At age 15, he developed an interest in listening to radio shows and TV shows, particularly Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (K.B.C), and fell in love with deejaying from P-Scratch, the then-playing VJ on the television network. Back in high school, his friends gave him the name "DJ Litmus" after watching him play on turntables. Merrick only learned to deejay because his friend, who was a DJ, moved away from Nairobi, so he felt he had to learn it all for himself. He later changed his name to "dj Lytmas" since he did not want himself associated with litmus paper, which sounded weird to him.[citation needed]
Educational Background
Dj Lytmas did his primary school in Chepkolon Green Highlands Academy in Kericho County [3] where he did his K.C.P.E and proceeded to Onjiko High School[4] before transferring to Ridore High School in Kisumu County.
Discography
Dj Lytmas began making mixtapes in 2015, which mainly consisted of dancehall fusion from major modern dancehall artists like Vybz Kartel, Konshens, two of whom were his favourite artists. After several months of success in the mixtapes-making business, dj Lytmas decided to start a record label of his own; "Dapstrem Entertainment" with the goal to promote upcoming artists[5] which he quoted during an interview with Dapstream News:
"The label started basically to give a route
to artists that are coming up, to give
them a way out, and not let them go
through some of the mistakes that most artists go through."
In 2016, dj Lytmas began making mixtapes and left club deejaying.
