Dan Alva (born October 22, 1984) is an American artist who comes from a Spanish background of fine artists. Based in Miami, Alva’s works are a hybrid of mixed-media, sculptures, and oil paintings, often with subversive undertones.

Career[edit]

Alva has been working as an art director since 2008 under his real name Danny Alvarez. He has won awards for brands including his Burger King Bullying Jr. campaign that won the AICP Honoring Excellence award[1] and is now part of the MoMA’s permanent film collection,[2][3][4]

He was a creative director of Burning Stores, a print campaign for Burger King. The campaign was considered one of the best ads of 2017 by adweek and it also won the Grand Prix in Print and Publishing at the Cannes Lion Festival.[5][6]

Alva's first solo show was held in New York City in 2018 at Guy Hepner Gallery were he first showed The Brandalism Series. Words and phrases are superimposed on the prints, and acrylic spray cans are then punctured and allowed to explode freely onto the advert.[7][8]

His latest series title Outsourced Series is a re-interpretation of old master paintings using original materials and methods with a modern approach. The works were first publicly shown at Art Basel 2019 with Oliver Cole Gallery.[9][10]
