Dan DeBono[1] is a former U.S. Navy SEAL, bond trader, and portfolio manager. He was born in Syosset, NY and raised in Northport, NY by an extended family that included teachers, cops, and nuns.[2] DeBono ran, unsuccessfully, for Congress in 2018, losing to Incumbent Thomas Suozzi. DeBono now serves as the Chief Infrastructure Funding Officer at the Department of Transportation.[3]
Military Service[edit]
Training[edit]
DeBono comes from a patriotic family. His father served in the U.S. Army in Korea. One of his grandfathers served during WWI, and his other grandfather was a police officer for the New York City Police Department (NYPD). DeBono first volunteered for military service in 1986, through the Navy ROTC program. Prior to graduation from college, he was selected for Navy SEAL training. He was Class Leader of Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training Class 173.[4]
Service[edit]
Dan was assigned to SEAL Team Two in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He completed one tour overseas during the Bosnian War, conducted numerous Joint Training Operations with NATO allies, and specialized in Joint Special Warfare Submarine Operations.
Personal life[edit]
College Education[edit]
DeBono attended Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts and majored in mathematics. During his time at Holy Cross, he played both Division I Lacrosse and Division I Soccer, and captained the Men’s Soccer team.[5]
Graduate Education[edit]
After his return to civilian life, DeBono enrolled at The Booth School of Business at The University of Chicago, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a Concentration in Finance, and also earned High Honors.
Post Graduate Life[edit]
Following his graduation from The Booth School of Business at The University of Chicago, DeBono spent the next 20 years working in finance and investing. He began as an investment banker and eventually became a trader and investor. Dan currently serves as a Committeeman for the Town of Huntington Republican Committee. In addition to his contributions as a Committeeman, DeBono remains active with Navy SEAL recruiting.[6]

Department of Transportation[edit]
As the Chief Infrastructure Funding Officer at the Department of Transportation, DeBono will have numerous responsibilities, including those of the Deputy Secretary of Transportation Policy, a position whose office holder recently vacated.
