Daneshmand (meaning "Scientist" in English) is a weekly published Persian magazine covering a variety of academic subjects ranging from Medicine & Psychology to Technology & the Arts.[1] The Magazine is tailored towards the Farsi-speaking communities living within the greater Vancouver area as well as across Canada. The magazine is based out of West Vancouver, Canada.[2]

History[edit]

Daneshmand is a weekly published magazine founded in 2006, by Moe Emady, aimed at publishing scientific articles tailored towards Persian professionals living across Canada & primarily the greater Vancouver area.[3] Daneshmand is published every Friday and is distributed all across the greater Vancouver Area. In 2022 it was announced that it had merged with local Persian magazine Salam Vancouver and the digital marketing firm Meta Marketing.[4]

Features[edit]

Daneshmand was designed to help connect professionals & scholars in the Persian community to the local businesses across greater Vancouver. Outside of Los Angeles, Vancouver has the largest community of Persians in North America.[5] Daneshmand has sought to tap into this market by covering a variety of academic subjects such as Medicine, Technology, Psychology, & Arts. The magazine is predominantly read by local Persian scholars and professionals, as a way of staying up to date with new discoveries. Daneshmand also posts regularly on their own website.[6]

Accolades[edit]

On September 3, 2008, Daneshmand magazine received recognition for their service to the Iranian community of West Vancouver from Ralph Sultan (member of the legislative assembly of British Columbia).[7] In 2009, Daneshmand received a certification of appreciation from Andrew Saxton (parliamentary secretary to the president of the treasury board) for their service to the local North Vancouver community.[7] Daneshmand has been recognized as one of the premier Persian magazines (in terms of revenue) in all of Canada by Dunn & Bradstreet.[8]
