Daniel Etim Effiong is a Nigerian actor, producer and director.
Early life and education
His passion for performances led him to pursue an education in the Motion Picture Medium at AFDA Johannesburg, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Motion Picture Arts. Before that, he worked as a content producer at Ndani TV, where he wrote, directed and produced short films, comedy skits and documentaries. He is currently engaged in further studies at the University of Johannesburg to obtain a masters degree in film and television.[1]
Career
He started his acting carrier in 2011 with Nigeria’s first web series Goddamit It’s Monday and then Ndani TV’s Gidi Up as the infamous Folarin.[2][3] He doubled as an actor/character model for TV commercials before landing a role as Adze in South African soap opera, Generations: The Legacy.[1]
His short film Crimson won the first runner-up prize at the MTN-Afrinolly short film competition by Afrinolly for young African filmmakers in 2014 as well as the Kumla Dumor prize for storytelling.[4][5][6] His PSA Thato’s Dream also won the first prize in the Unilever-Mofilm Cannes Lion competition for the Project Sunlight brand in 2015.[7]
His most recent directorial work on the feature documentary titled, Skin was selected for official screenings in film festivals across the world. He has been featured in several Nollywood films, TV series, TV commercials and stage productions.[8] His most recent roles are as Evander Obi on Africa Magic’s Battleground, Mike Amenechi on Ebonylife’s Castle & Castle[9][10] and as Dele Coker in the kenyan-film, Plan B.[11][12] His recent plays are Shift let me Faint produced by Gbagyi Child Entertainment[13] and Threesome by Jude Idada.[14]
In 2020, he was nominated for Best Actor in Comedy for the film, Plan B at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards.[15]
