Daniel James

James, a former newspaper journalist, was hired to a write the book after receiving a late night phone-call by an anonymous client.[2] His biography promised to reveal the truth about Maas’s disappearance, which is considered to be ‘one of the biggest mysteries in contemporary art’.[3] Although the book was originally written in 2012, it was opposed by the artist's estate – The Maas Foundation – and its publication was delayed until 2018.

James is working on a new and definitive edition of The Unauthorised Biography of Ezra Maas for release in 2021.

Life and career[edit]

James was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK and comes from a working-class background. He studied English Literature at university. After training as a journalist with the Press Association, he worked as a freelance writer in Newcastle, London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Zurich, New York and Los Angeles.
